Photorealistic Rendering
Catoo Engine has a modern PBR renderer with a highly optimized deferred pipeline.
Our advanced lighting features EVSM optimized Shadow Mapping with realistic area/soft shadows, Clustered Lighting with spatial subdivision that handles hundreds of dynamic lights and screen‑space GI with cone-integrated bent normals.The pipeline supports a set of features such as:
- An efficient Temporal Anti-aliasing and Denoiser with a custom approach for image clarity.
- Photorealistic lens effects with robust Depth of Field.
- High-quality post-processing effects including Film Grain, Bloom and Heat Distortion.
- ACES color workflow with 3D LUT grading and multiple color-spaces support.
Materials include efficient sub‑surface scattering, screen‑space refraction and glossy reflections with an analytical occlusion fallback. The same pipeline can be used on mobile devices via our unified output support and platform‑specific upscaling.

Performance & Cross‑Platform Support
Built for high performance through clustered lighting, tight frustum/occlusion culling, and targeted FP16 optimizations. A graph‑based, multithreaded pipeline compiles shader permutations in the background, while fallback shaders keep the picture uninterrupted.
Cross‑platform graphics abstraction for Vulkan and Metal, with HLSL cross‑compiled to SPIR‑V/Metal for unified output on Windows, macOS, Linux, and iOS, with support for high-refresh displays.

Real‑time Editing Tools
We feature an ImGui‑based editor with live inspection of components, hot‑reloading for shaders and assets, and practical visual debugging (bounds, texture viewers, frame overlays). A reflection/meta system, automatic dependency graph resolution and cross‑scene references enable safe, real‑time edits while the game runs.
A built‑in performance monitor allows for device-specific tuning without breaking flow.

Particles & Animation
The particles in the Catoo Engine are affected by direct and indirect lighting, producing a volumetric, realistic look. They cast soft/area shadows and can be controlled by force fields, deflectors, and an optimized turbulence simulation.
Our character animation and mesh deformation system features GPU-optimized dual-quaternion skinning, multi-channel morph targets, and vertex displacement mapping.
